Kirroughtree House was the Mansion House for the Kirroughtree Estate which was owned by the Heron family for well over 300 years but sold by them to Major Armitage in the 1880's. Following his death in 1931 most of the estate including its farms were acquired by the Forestry Commission, although his daughter continued to live in the House, until her death in 1942.
It was first used as a Hotel in 1946 and has been owned by a number of hotel groups and individuals since that time it has been well maintained and improved over the years, while largely maintaining its period feel. In the stair lobby you will find a number of early maps of the local area.
